“Dead Men Running” Contest Announced
(North Hollywood, CA) As politics shuffles through the traditionally dead August and many candidates begin to look like the walking dead, ZombiePresidents.com is launching a “Dead Men Running” contest looking for the best pictures of their t-shirts of un-dead presidents at live presidential campaign events.

“A lot of Democrats are looking for the next Kennedy and a lot of Republicans are looking for the next Reagan,” said shirt designer and company co-founder Mark Tavares. “Rather than settle for a lesser imitation we decided to bring the originals back.”

“My wife is a yellow-dog Democrat,” said Brett Dewey, CEO of WickedCoolStuff.com and co-founder of ZombiePresidents.com, referring to voters who say they would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican. “But I’m more of a zombie Democrat, it gives me more options.”

“I would certainly prefer an undead Kennedy to a living Republican in 2008,” said Peter Loge, a Washington DC based political strategist, adding that he prefers most of the living Democratic candidates to their flesh-eating alternative. “But if worse comes to worst, I’ll vote for the zombie,” said Loge.

Contestants are asked to send in pictures of themselves wearing the t-shirts at campaign events, standing next to candidates, or even a picture of the candidate him or herself wearing the shirt. Prizes are gift certificates to pop culture retailer WickedCoolStuff.com and the fleeting fame offered by the internet. The rules require the candidate be a “major Democratic or Republican” candidate, defined as a candidate invited to appear in the most recent nationally televised debate. “Mike Gravel and Ron Paul count, but your crazy Uncle Lou doesn’t” said Tavares. The shirts, which are currently available at WickedCoolStuff.com and ZombiePresidents.com, feature illustrations of the late Presidents Lincoln, Reagan, Nixon and Kennedy rising from the grave. In addition the site sells bumper stickers with the illustrations and saying “Better Undead Than Democrat: Zombie Reagan for President” or “Better Undead than Republican: Zombie Kennedy for President.” The shirts retail for 15.95 and the bumper stickers for $2.95.
